“This consciousness is beyond the body, feelings, and thoughts. It is beyond beliefs, attitudes, names, families, and social or economic status. It is your inner being. — Ramez Sasson
There exist many levels of consciousness involving: a state of being, deep sleep, dreaming, transcendental or cosmic consciousness and several others. All to often, many individuals just scratch the surface in becoming actively alive, alert, awake, aware, involved or innately curious about heightened or a higher consciousness within their basic existence. In whatever environment we may find ourselves in this moment, a plethora of distractions envelop our wakefulness bombarding our sensibilities with an incessant and limitless deluge of how to survive day to day, in meeting our obligations, commitments, responsibilities, agreements, health concerns, work schedules, family obligations or lack thereof, making successful career choices, or for some the looming decisions involving retirement. The protracted list is endless, and adding to that is now the ever evolving progress of technological advances in electronic paraphernalia, sustaining the detachment of the human experience. There is now a name defining this on-going phenomenon to date and that is: Electronic Denial Insensitivity, or EDI. We all experience this complete disconnectedness by our fellow man, only now to a much greater degree. Dr. Jacob Sage, M.D. expresses another thought, “The difference between being awake and being conscious . . . consciousness is best defined as wakefulness plus content.”
Discerning the difference between wakefulness plus content, can be daunting for a great many individuals. Ramez Sasson assesses this quite succinctly, “Body feelings and thoughts are changeable and impermanent. Even the cells of the body change in time. Yet, the Higher Consciousness never changes. It is immutable. It holds everything else together like a string that holds a necklace of pearls. It is constant, but all the ‘things’ attached to it or evolving around it always change.” Plugging into that inner essence or being is a journey, not a destination. We need to investigate this untapped treasure which has always been there. Some individuals have come to realize that the mind and attention, reside outside in the external world. Knowing this now becomes beyond a challenge, due to the continuance of those outside influences fighting for the attention of our every waking moment . . . it is a palpable, unrelenting, consistent deluge of overwhelming distractions that sabotage our basic efforts to tap into Higher/Heightened Consciousness.
We have the unbridled opportunity by exercising our conscious choice of will, to pry open perhaps for the first time in this life’s journey, a glimpse into the limitless possibility in our Consciousness of Being. Once that door is opened, there is no turning back. The threshold of conscious wakefulness has been revealed, and we now enter into the realm of implausible possibilities without measure beyond imagination. As a child and through those years of growth, discovery, illumination and conscious awareness, I was repeatedly aware of a very simple truth by those who had a tremendous impact on my life and inner being. I consistently heard these words in almost every turn in my life . . . having peace of mind, is an untold wealth beyond measure. Over time through trial and error, one learns there exists no substitute. Thinking of it in another way is British theologian Charles Haddon Sprugeon, “Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting up.” JLR
