“Why struggle to open a door between us when the whole wall is an illusion?” —- Rumi

There exist many illusions that we feel are a continuance of the ubiquitous brick wall, obstructing our capacity to reach the other side. We find this beginning in childhood for a myriad of reasons, due to our orientation and environment when we glimpse those first memories of existence and awakening. We are imprinted with more of what is impossible than possible, caused by the limitations in consciousness of our parents, family, teachers, friends, role models, and later spouses, professors, colleagues, associates and business partners. How is it then that for some very brave and courageous individuals, they are willing to take the initiative, jump off the cliff, and risk it all without trepidation? When the discomfort and pain of staying in the same place without seeing any change, growth, vision, opportunity or advance becomes beyond overwhelming, we embrace another element of conscious awakening described once again by Rumi . . . “I have lived on the lip of insanity wanting to know reasons, knocking on a door. The door opens. I’ve been knocking from the inside.”

The walls of impossibility are built by each of us, and must be excavated brick, by brick, by brick. The initiation of that action comes with present conscious awareness, and may begin at three years of age, or at seven, perhaps fourteen and for each of us that prescience arrives at different times for different reasons. And for others, that consciousness never arrives. The rhymes and reasons for this are limitless, confounding, in-congruent, frustrating, conflicting, and convoluted. We have all been in the presence of individuals who will never reflect an awareness connected with conscious critical thought or perception. Rather than internalize the impossibility of the situation . . . embrace the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson when he said, “Society is full of infirm people who incessantly summon others to serve them.” It appears with these individuals the opportunities for consciousness never arrived, and never will, as they continue to choose darkness over light. For those of us that walk another path we adhere to the words of Byron Katie . . . “Life is the constant opportunity to wake up.”

We are faced with an abundance of choices every moment of every day. Those individuals that enrich, embellish, and enlighten our lives bring a great deal of unbridled joy, happiness, elation and hope to this journey. Coming to the realization of letting go to circumstances or individuals, that cannot or will not be moved by any means is an extremely difficult and challenging choice that must be made by each of us. Contemplating that decision comes at a price sometimes a very high price, however, when weighing all the factors, consequences and options, we are left with these constructive thoughts of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin . . . “There is almost a sensual longing for communion with others who have a large vision. The immense fulfillment of the friendship between those engaged in furthering the evolution of consciousness has a quality impossible to describe.” JLR
