“Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” — William Jennings Bryan

If we take the literal meaning of the word destiny, it means the inevitable or necessary succession of events. It can mean what will necessarily happen to any person or thing, perhaps one’s fortune, and that which determines events, said of either a supernatural agency or necessity. Some people for whatever reason, take the literal meaning of destiny as part of their self-proclaimed prophecy, or dogma and allow this to dictate their life’s journey. At some point in time, we have met individuals who are completely convinced they have no choice regarding the path of their lives. Nothing could be more erroneous or further from the truth. Given our orientation, environment, upbringing, imprinting, and role models or lack thereof . . . we have the opportunity to create a path for ourselves which will take vision, courage, and a profound conscious choice of will. We may have people in our lives at this very moment, that have impacted who we are so indelibly . . . without our recognition. Destiny has very little to do with who we are as Robert Holden suggests, “Circumstances and situations do color life, but you have been given the mind to choose what the color shall be.”

Our experience dictates how some of us respond to any given situation or circumstance, especially involving choice. However, our conscious mind chooses as Robert Holden states in the above quote, how that will color our response. Taking that thought one step further, this has happened throughout our entire lives, the only difference is we were not always conscious of the process. Instead of responding using present conscious awareness, we implemented a knee jerk reaction perhaps based on a premise totally unrelated. The good news is . . . the essence of who we are doesn’t vaporize. Once we cross the threshold of conscious wakefulness, and integrate the understanding that our growth, worth, depth, and wisdom have always been there . . . our minds can begin to choose the color of every experience. What freedom! From that instant of ultimate release Abraham Hicks then suggests,”Whatever you’re thinking about is literally like planning a future event. When you’re worrying, you are planning. When you are appreciating, you are planning. What are you planning?”

Just for clarification, this doesn’t involve the technological electronic self. No . . . the intrinsic essence of who we are doesn’t involve electronic technology on any level, which may distress some individuals. So be it! In the last analysis, we are a potpourri, amalgam, compilation, and continuing process of thoughts, beliefs, actions, behavior and desires reflecting the fundamental essence of our existence. We are responsible and accountable human beings, which may be an arduous, challenging, difficult and encumbering path filled with frightening experiences, circumstances and situations that will try every fiber of our being. Once we have achieved our individual truth, the journey becomes its own reward which resounds within the recesses of every man. And then another element of the human condition is added, which acts as an overlay for all the rest. It is simple, direct, necessary, vital, life-changing and the wisdom of consciousness beyond our experience, shared by Judith Campbell . . . “When your heart speaks, take good notes.” JLR
