“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness.” — Eckhart Tolle
Given the above quote is extremely unique to the individual, the question then becomes at what point in our lives do we have any clue of what we’re doing, why we’re doing it and in what direction we’re headed? We evolve through the experiences that “show-up” in this process we call “life.” At what point then, do we become acutely aware of that consciousness that is so integral to our evolutionary experience? The first step is suggested by Stephen R. Covey, “Accountability breeds response-ability.”
Yes, consciousness is connected to accountability and responsibility. Whether we wish to confront this or not, in any process of experience during this life’s journey we must be directly responsible for our conduct, behavior, choices, failures, successes, missteps and errors. Unfortunately, all to often a present awareness in the content of character begins very early . . . reflecting what is sadly lacking. In my experience as an educator through many levels over many years, I was made acutely aware of this on a daily basis. It is almost a “given” that individuals will experience a life process that appears to garner a decided shift, bringing consciousness to fruition. After several attempts witnessing this over time in the educational field, I finally realized a simple premise by Lao Tzo, “To lead people, walk behind them.”
Becoming aware of the chaos, crisis, divergent ideas, conflicting solutions, convoluted theories, baseless rhetoric, empty hypotheticals and the like that swirl about us from moment to moment . . . it is overwhelmingly purposeful to surround yourself with stillness. There is a place within each of us that is sacred, humble, honorable and innocent. To reach it simply follow the words of Lao Tzo . . . “To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.” In this present moment can you still the chaos that may exist in your life? Once you experience that peace that passes all understanding, you will begin to step out of the darkness and into the light, surrendering to your truth. JLR
