“Humans are born in truth, but we grow up believing in lies, one of the biggest lies in the story of humanity is the lie of our imperfection.” — Don Miguel Ruiz

Simply put, we become domesticated through our orientation, environment, families, friends, teachers and professors through an education which greatly influences our perception and perspective in every aspect/facet of our lives. We become manipulated, if you will . . . by what we think about ourselves through layers and layers of careful tutoring and indoctrination. As stated in the quote above by Don Miguel Ruiz taken from his book, The Fifth Agreement . . . the lies we have come to believe regarding our humanity are really exaggerated distortions of our perfection.

Given where we are in any specific time of our life’s journey, this is an extremely challenging concept to assimilate at first blush. It is a complete reversal of what we have come to believe about who we are, and why we are here. Taking it to the core of who we are . . . this shakes up our belief system and re-orders our thinking. Yes, we are carefully taught to strive for success in life and as Don Miguel Ruiz reiterates, “What we call education is nothing but domestication of the human being.”

When we look at this life as a continuing process and evolution, then the concepts as mentioned become less threatening and more a revelation to our consciousness. There is a shift in our awareness, and we begin to examine where we are, how we got there, where we’re going, what is important, what are the priorities in our lives, and the intentions that move us forward with acuity.

For some, a shift in conscious presence may never take place . . . that’s a given and a choice. For others . . . there is a rumination that begins. Gradually, carefully, and with caution those that choose to begin an introspective, intrinsic investigation of ”our domestication” will reveal the perfection that we have always possessed. Once illuminated, consciousness becomes a drug of choice which erases the perception of doubt, fear and insecurity. Don Miguel Ruiz chooses these words which further enhances understanding, “Death is not the biggest fear we have; our biggest fear is taking the risk to be alive – the risk to be alive, and express what we really are. Just being our self is the biggest fear of humans.” You are perfection, you always were, which is your choice to discover through consciousness when you choose to take the risk. — JLR
