“The dysfunction of the human mind and its condition is becoming more and more intolerable to the planet and to humanity. People can’t live with themselves much longer.” — Eckhart Tolle

Recently, I had the opportunity to be in the presence of very dear friends who have traveled extensively, visited many countries and experienced many cultures. For several hours we shared our experiences and observations of what appears to be taking place almost universally with the human mind, and the “conscious choice of will.” There exists a disconnectedness of purpose exhibited through a mode of conduct, behavior, reaction in deference to thoughtful response, conversation or lack thereof, confusion, indifference, apathy, and mistrust. This appears to have occurred over a period of decades . . . insidiously, and rampantly exploding in each of our lives precipitating recognition on a conscious level. Were we asleep at the wheel during this process, or did we in some way contribute to it? Don Miguel Ruiz suggests this “What we call education is nothing but domestication of the human being.”

This awareness of conscious dysfunction of the human mind, which appears to be anesthetizing the planet and humanity when reflectively viewed historically, has existed for centuries in one way or another permeating various civilizations. As my friends and I continued our discussion, we were acutely aware of the historical implications, however, we understood in the present moment we are responsible and accountable for our personal conscious choice of will. We can affect change right where we are, via our friends, family, loved ones, personal and professional contacts. There is no magic bullet, there probably never will be. However, one thing will always remain as stated by Ayn Rand “The truth is not for all men, but only for those who seek it.”

When you notice other cultures, societies, and countries reflect on the sum total of your choices right where you are NOW, the one thing that resurfaces time after time, is Your Truth. No one knows your personal truth but you, and maybe a close confidant but that always involves complete trust . . . which unfortunately is lacking as well. What my friends and I came to realize is what Buddha shares with us, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” The real test comes in when we step out of our comfort zones, facing our fears and letting go of what we cannot control.

We are under the illusion that we have control over many aspects of our lives. With time, experience, observation and attuned consciousness we come to realize that we have control over very little. Our conscious awakening may be for some a crisis, yet for others a welcomed revelation. When consciousness is prescient, awareness of choices takes on another mantle. Time can be thought of as a thief, once we connect with who we really are and we begin to realize the treasured gift which is life. Through our life’s journey we experience an abundance of how our fellow man functions on various levels. However, in the words of Aristotle there is an experience which permeates our nature like no other and is part of our journey and our consciousness . . . “No notice is taken of evil, when it increases it strikes the eye.” The blessing then exists when we make that conscious choice of will . . . recognizing evil for exactly what it is, we embrace the eternal light of truth which has existed from the beginning of time.
