“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only life can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” —- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Words can be powerful instruments of change. However, the confusion takes place when our actions completely contradict our spoken words. We have all experienced this in one way or another with our families, friends, loved ones, colleagues, business associates, with our religious leaders or affiliations, elected political leaders in our country or on a global level. Within each of us from our earliest memories, we sometimes experience the rumination of consciousness from an exterior stimulus which is perceived as a flashpoint of recognition, and then for many ebbs and floats away. We recede back into a nebulous existence of unresponsive consciousness, which may continue for years until the next flashpoint ignites a spark of present awareness and as Emerson states, “We have to get our bloated nothingness out of the way.”

We are consumed with our lives and the drama that plays itself out within the context of existence. Those that are blessed with the presence of mind in acknowledging who they are, shape their lives accordingly as our life continually changes. In the Science of Mind this thought emerges, “The curse surfaces when we have difficulty in discovering who this self is. Of course we know the roles we play – mothers, daughters, fathers, sons and much more — but essentially, at our very core, who are we? Aren’t we more than the sum of all our roles?” How is life expressing itself through you, and are you consciously capable of getting out of your own way? Usually, when there is an awakening in one’s life for any reason, there is a conscious choice of will to embrace some sort of plan, taking the necessary steps to bring about change through understanding, acceptance, worthiness, wisdom, humility and love. We can bring about enormous shifts in consciousness, when we are present in our own lives with palpable threads of humility, gratefulness, generosity, and kindness cultivating a level of well being not only within ourselves, but for every human being we meet.

Darkness, hate and fear have existed since the beginning of time, and will undoubtedly continue. You are here in this place, at this time for a specific reason. No one else knows or possesses those specific creative resources inherent in all of us. Life and time will go on, however, in this moment there is an opportunity open to all of us, and if we listen quietly we may hear this from The Science of Mind . . . “Love overcomes both hate and fear. However, love does not overcome hate and fear through controversy, argument, or force, but by a subtle power of transformation, transmutation, and sublimation. It is invisible in its essence but apparent through its act.” The time is now, and the opportunity is always . . . yours. JLR
