“Celebrity is obscurity biding its time.” — Carrie Fisher
The above quote is short, sweet, to the point and hits the nail right on the proverbial head. It appears that we, not all, are consumed with popularity, fashion, success, headlines, by-lines, collections, stuff, celebrity status, wealth and an infinity of tangible recognition. Why? Fifteen minutes of fame is fleeting as is almost everything else . . . as nothing stays the same, and eveything changes. What is it that distills in your life reflecting substance, value, dignity, integrity, principle, truth, honesty, character and honor? Can you name any . . . or just three? It is woefully obvious that something is dreadfully wrong as we view our culture and society. Johann Wolfgang Van Goethe put it another way, “He who is plenteously provided for from within, needs but little from without.”
Ask yourself one question . . . how do I get there? The response to this does not require any “slight of hand reaction.” On the contrary, the response is simply . . . by becoming conscious of who you are, what you are, where you are going and for what purpose. This takes an application of courage, honesty and brutal insight into where you are in this very moment and what exactly are you doing with your life as you see it from the perspective and perception of your specific circumstance/s. This takes a tremendous amount of willingness to become brutally honest with the spectrum of your entire life process. The real work begins when you at last recognize the consciousness of your behavior, conduct and actions toward everyone in your life. . . no exceptions. Your ideology of “unconsciousness” is sabotaging your progress stated in the words of Stephen R. Covey in another way . . . “Our ultimate freedom is the right and power to decide how any body or any thing outside ourselves will affect us.”
Become the “guru, shaman and enlightened one” in your own life. Step out of your comfort zone, get rid of what is not working and begin a journey of conscious reflection in this present moment. No one is arriving to take you by the hand, direct your course or spoon feed your purpose. This lies directly at your feet, and you are responsible for the next step of the rest of your life. Ben Stein has an interesting turn of phrase regarding this . . . “The indispensable first step of getting the things you want out of life is this: decide what you want.” Once you accomplish this, the next step/s become a conscious journey of direction, guidance, understanding, enlightenment and honor.
