“Without working on human consciousness, trying to change social, national or global realities means there is no serious intention.” — Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev
What does this quote mean? That would depend on where you are in your own conscious growth, and what you have embraced as your truth. It may be that you have never addressed either your consciousness or your truth, and exist comfortably in “limbo.” Of course in time this all catches up with you, when ultimately running into one brick wall after another is more the norm than the exception. You may think that this “infinite busyness” which permeates your existence, defines who you are but John Wooden put it another way, “Never mistake activity for achievement.”
If you come to a dead-end in your life, reverse direction and recognize the ultimate problem . . . you. As the old adage states, “Tomorrow is promised to no one,” and I would add neither is the next moment. Thomas Paine stated this premise in another way, “We have it in our power to begin the world over again.” This possibility always begins and ends with you. Yes, the decision to move in another direction is always your continuing responsibility. Just as a friend shared with me recently, “When you know it, you do it . . . if you don’t, you won’t.”
Very few of us are willing to relinquish the comfort zone in our own lives. Unfortunately, our individual journey is never tied up cleverly in a neat little package. It’s not that simple and it’s not that easy. When you make the decision to live consciously, basic elements in your life become clarified. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev states this in another way, ” You are not using your intelligence to reach the peak of your consciousness, to become peaceful and loving. You are using your intelligence to drive yourself crazy. You know everything about the world, but you do not know anything about yourself. This is a ridiculous way to live.” Look around you, better yet . . . take a good look at yourself . . . what do you see? JLR
