“You must know one thing: the world was made to be free in . . . Give up all the other worlds except the one to which you belong . . . anything or anyone that does not bring you alive is too small for you.” —- David Whyte
Recently, I had the experience of being in the company of individuals who resounded a present consciousness of dissatisfaction, disconnectedness, disjunctive reaction to circumstances and displeasure with where they found themselves. It reflected the feeling of not belonging in present reality. It was quite revealing on many levels, for the objective observer. Rather than fully embracing the reality of where they found themselves in life, it became clear that there existed an underlying current of unrest. In the Science of Mind, there exists this quote . . . “Everything in the universe, including you and your experience, is where it is by right of consciousness. It is impossible for anything to be anywhere that is in conflict with the consciousness of that thing. You are the result of every thought, decision, feeling, and interpretation of your experience that you have ever had.” The real question is are you living fully . . . not do I belong in these circumstances.
When individuals come to a certain time in life, and find themselves unhappy with their present circumstances, for the objective observer who is listening it may be helpful to direct the conversation more positively into a question of living fully. When individuals are not living fully there exists feelings of inadequacy, frustration, fear, anger, and suffering, which can be turned to a greater freedom by opening up future possibilities. Of course, this has its own challenges but Wayne Muller said it best with these words, “Your life is not a problem to be solved, but a gift to be opened.” People arrive in consciousness differently, and is quite challenging for many. However, we all have the right to choose when fully awakened, what action, path or decision to make . . . and then live with those consequences. Thomas Troward suggests this, “The action of Mind plants that nucleus which, if allowed to grow undisturbed, will eventually attract to itself all conditions necessary for its manifestation…”
Engaging in conversations with individuals who may precipitate ideas of a disgruntled attitude for whatever reason, may become tedious over time. However, there exists a point of view that clarifies this conundrum quite well, and it is revealed by Don Miguel Ruiz. In his book, “The Four Agreements” Mr. Ruiz makes this strong suggestion in dealing with certain types of individuals . . . “Even when a situation seems so personal, even if others insult you directly, it has nothing to do with you.” There comes a time when negative energy persists from family, friends, colleagues, associates or acquaintances . . . it is necessary to maintain clarity within yourself and meet that negativity with accepting love, and frustration with serenity. We come to fully realize consciousness continues to run its course, and is the essence of each of us expressing a universe of change, through eternity. JLR
