“Health, wealth, beauty and genius are not created; they are only manifested by the arrangement of your mind — that is, by your concept of yourself, and your concept of yourself is all that you accept and consent to as true.” — Neville

What else has your mind arranged, implemented, fabricated, engineered and fueled up to now? The concept of who you are, has been indelibly imprinted with your orientation, education, environment, perspective and experience. It is almost a forgone conclusion what your living truth is . . . regarding this concept of yourself. And then something happens one day in the flicker of an instant, that completely rearranges that accepted perception turning our world upside down, inside out and backwards. What we believed as rock solid disappears in a vapor of disillusion, and we flounder. We are lost we think . . . or are we? Dr. Wayne Dyer suggested this thought, “Only the insecure strive for security.”

With a life altering shift present in our lives, everything changes . . . everything. Now what will you accept as a concept of yourself? Now the real work begins . . . and preparedness through conscious awareness is the key to a process that will continue to evolve using the tool of mindfulness. Wherever you find yourself in this journey we call life, Heraclitus reminds us “Character is our destiny, the way up is the way down.”

Ultimately, the real challenge is coming to terms with present circumstances and consciously beginning the work needed to make the changes necessary. Hitting that familiar brick wall, can be nothing more than brainwashing yourself into believing everything will be fine without to much hassle. This time . . . you are wrong and that type of thinking is founded on a baseless concept of what you have accepted to be true.

Recognition is the first step in creating a shift in consciousness, and the willingness to begin plowing through a lifetime of misconceptions of who you are. In my experience, this is not something that we wake up one day choosing to do. On the contrary, a shift in consciousness becomes apparent during a life changing event that touches you personally, your family or a loved one. Sometimes this event is so devastating, it takes an extended amount of time to assess what to do, how to do it and in what direction to turn. This may take an inordinate amount of time, before a semblance of order becomes an option. Of course there is always another choice, before a catastrophic event catapults you into a chaotic series of missteps. Yes you guessed it, by taking the initiative now and acknowledging a conscious shift you can and will be ahead of the curve. The Talmud states it in another way, “Don’t use the conduct of fool as a precedent.” JLR
